In August, our Bar Bippa was announced as one of the winners of the prestigious Wold Beer Awards in London. During this annual competition, Bippa was awarded as gold medalist as well as country winner in its category. The New England IPA from Flanders convinced the jury with its surprising combination of hops and fruit. Great news for Bar Belge! Because with this gold medal, our prize counter now stands at three.
The renowned, annual competition judges beers from around the world in various categories, both in terms of taste and in terms of design. More than 2,500 beers from as many as 55 countries participated in this year's competition.
Judges from Europe, Asia and America taste, test and select the best participating beers per country. Within each category a bronze, silver and gold medal are awarded. Beers that achieve gold and receive the best score from their country may call themselves 'Country Winner'. These Country Winners will later compete against each other in the finals to find out which beer receives the title of 'World's Best'.
Bar Bippa placed within the Milkshake IPA/New England IPA category and managed to qualify as Country Winner. Troubadour, the beer of fellow country brewery Magma Neipa finished with a bronze medal. The beer ultimately chosen as World's Best Milkshake IPA/New England IPA is Mars, a creation of brewery Uchu Brewing from Japan.
Bar Bippa's newest addition brings the tally of awards to three. Over the last two years, in fact, amber specialty Bar Belge scored a bronze medal and white beer Bar Blanche scored a silver medal. Bar Bippa's gold medal thus completes the podium. Excellent news, because a gold Award like this also immediately serves as a quality label for consumers. The award also ensures that Bippa is seen more outside our borders, which can only benefit our internationalization plans.
Hints of hops and fragments of fruit combined into a Belgian IPA with the characteristic cloudiness and a silky-smooth taste.
